Activities of Yasuto Mushiake since 1990s

Yasuto Mushiake has been very active in the academic fields also after his retirement from the President at Tohoku Institute of Technology. His recent activities can be summarized in the following items.  (Item numbers are put in chronological order, but they are shown in rearranged order considering their respective importance.)
15. An article gSelf-complementary antennah is created in Wikipedia.

2. He collected and arranged the results of his long continued researches on self-complementary antennas, and published a comprehensive book,

    gSelf-Complementary Antennas \Principle of Self-Complementarity for constant impedance\h, Springer-Verlag London LTD., London, England, 1996.

1. He published the following Feature Article, at the invitation of @ the Magazine.

gSelf-complementary antennash, IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine, Vol. 34, No. 6, pp. 23-29, December 1992.

9. He presented an invited talk gA report on Japanese developments of antennas from Yagi-Uda antenna to self-complementary antennash AP-S Digest, 3, pp. 841-844, at 2003 IEEE AP-S International Symposium held in Columbus, Ohio, June 2003.

10. He published an invited Feature Article,hA report on Japanese developments of antennas: From the Yagi-Uda antenna to self-complementary antennash, IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine, Vol. 46, No. 4, pp. 47-60, August 2004.

11. He presented an invited talk gCreation of the novel technologies for antennas in Japan with particular emphasis on self-complementary antennash, at 2004 International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation, held in Sendai, August 18, 2004.

13. He received gDistinguished Service Award for IEEE Chapter Activitiesh from IEEE Tokyo Section at the memorial ceremony of fiftieth anniversary held in Tokyo on March 1, 2006, where Dr. Michael R. Lightner, 2006 IEEE President, attended all the way from the United States to make a congratulatory address by him.

3. He presented an oral paper,

gMutual impedances between loaded unipole-notch type self-complementary antenna elements,h

at the PIERS, Innsbruck, July 1996, p.465. (Co-authored by T. Kasahara).

4. On the occasion of the late Professor Shintaro Udafs centennial birthday, he promoted a revaluation movement for the leading role of Uda at the invention of Yagi-Uda Antenna. Actually, around that time, there were slanderous publications for Uda about that invention, and severe criticism was expressed by the graduates of ex-Uda Laboratory toward the publisher and the author. In this connection, he presented an oral paper [IEEJ, HEE-96-15] at the meeting of IEEJ held in Tokyo on Sept. 11, 1996. In this paper the leading role of Uda at the above invention was correctly explained in detail.

5. He proposed the definitions for three terms related to the self-complementary antenna at the Atlanta meeting of IEEE Antenna Standards Committee held on June 22, 1998, at the invitation of the Committee.

6. He realized that there was a serious falsification about the broadband property of so-called log-periodic antennas in the article of J. ICICE, Vol. 80, No. 5, p. 424, May 1997 and some scientists and engineers supported it. For this reason, he started a movement to correct such a wrong explanation, and he stressed the truth that the broadband property of log-periodic antennas comes from their self-complementary shapes rather than their log-periodic shapes. In this connection he published the following article.

gLog-periodic structure provides no broad-band property for antennash, J. ICICE, Vol. 82, No. 5, pp. 510-511, May 1999.

7. He presented an invited talk on gSelf-Complementary Antennash at China-Japan Joint Symposium on Antennas and Propagation held at Xian, China, on March 16, 2000.

8. He published a book gExplanatory stories of electromagnetic wave and antennash, Ohmsha, Tokyo, 2001. In this book he criticized the irrelevant treatment for creative research achievements by the existing societies in Japan.

12. The extremely broadband property of the so-called gLog-periodic antennah actually comes from the gPrinciple of Self-Complementarityh. In spite of this academic truth, some unlearned people still have misunderstanding that the broadband property is provided by its log-periodic shape. For this reason, he made a proposal for the purpose of correcting such an unreasonable misunderstanding early December 2005.

14. Mr. GS showed Y. Mushiake a manuscript on gThe history of radio waves in Japanh finished by him in September 2007. The explanation in this manuscript about the actual inventor of the Yagi-Uda Antenna was not approvable to Mushiake, and he opposed to such a description. Since then quite severe dispute were continued between them for several months without reaching any agreement. Under such a deplorable situation, Mushiake wrote a short essay in Japanese on this subject wishing that Mr. GS will not damage the reputation of the late Professor S. Uda any more with his publication. In this essay, Mushiake explained in detail the leading role of Uda for the invention of that antenna (see Item 4.), and he broke off the meaningless argument with Mr. GS.
